Sam Houston’s Walker Tabbed Southland Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

first_imgFRISCO, Texas – Sam Houston State senior guard Jaylonn Walker is the Southland Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.Walker was amazing in the Bearkats’ lone game on the week, pouring in 41 points to break the SHSU single-game record that had stood for 30 years. The mark was the highest scoring total by any Southland player, and the ninth-most of any player in the NCAA, this season. Walker had 13 points in the first half, and the Kats trailed by as many as 22 points before the break. After the intermission, she tossed in 28 more points as her team drew to within three points before falling 94-91 on the road at Abilene Christian.Sam Houston closes out its regular season with its home finale on Wednesday, March 4, as host to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi before facing Stephen F. HARPS FAVOURITE DECLAN BOYLE JOINS CLUB’S YOUTH SET-UP

Photo by Ciaran McLochlainn.Declan Boyle has been appointed as the manager of Finn Harps’ U17 side which will participate in the inaugural U17 national league.The Killybegs native will require little introduction to Harps fans having made a total of 370 appearances and scoring 21 goals (9 of which came in the 2007 season) during 3 different spells at the club.Declan made his debut as an 18 year old under caretaker Manager Alex Harkin away to Limerick City in March 1992, and will always be remembered as the man who captained Harps to the First Division Title in 2004. He also won a league title with Derry City in 1997 and also claimed FAI & League Cup winner’s medals during a successful time at Sligo Rovers which led to a move to Glasgow Celtic.Following ongoing discussions with members of both the Harps board and management team the Killybegs native is delighted to have committed to the club’s youth development project.“It’s great to be back at Finn Park and there is a challenge ahead which I am relishing. I have been lucky enough to play with great players and great teams throughout my career.“I know what it takes to be a successful senior footballer.
