BoI into accidental release of “Satan” completed

So it is not a situation where he has to be taken before the court and all of that. Also, the BoI is finished, but I still have to go through it and prepare a report to send out.”This blunder of the ranks is said to have occurred because the murder accused had also been on remand for a lesser offence, on which he was freed. It was upon conclusion of the interviewing process pending release for the lesser offence that the rank released “Satan”, being unaware of the information regarding the murder charge against the man. By the time the rank was finally provided with that crucial bit of information, the murder accused was long gone.“Satan” was, in September 2018, committed to stand trial for the murder of 14-year-old Malika Hamilton, whose body was fished out of the Hope Canal, East Coast Demerara, on August 12, 2016.It is alleged that she was reported missing after going for a swim with the accused and another male.Police arrested “Satan” a few days after Hamilton’s body had been found, having found him hiding in a barrel at a relative’s house. He was subsequently charged and remanded. The unrepresented accused had alleged that Police ranks had beaten him to say things that he did not know about.A Magistrate subsequently threw the matter out, after ruling that Police had not made out a case against “Satan”. The Police subsequently filed an appeal, and in September 2018, Satan was rearrested. US radio hosts sing Donegal’s praises to 16 million listeners

first_imgPresenters from six of America’s most popular radio stations have been visiting Donegal and the Wild Atlantic Way on an action-packed programme to promote tourism. The hosts, who are guests of Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland, have a combined audience of some 16 million listeners.That huge audience – or potential US holidaymakers for Ireland – have been keeping up with the radio presenters’ travels here via social media. The radio presenters’ adventurous programme included a tour of Donegal Castle, a guided walk at Slieve League with Paddy Clarke, as well as a visit to the Glencolmcille Folk Village. They stayed in Lough Eske Castle.Each of the presenters has been conducting interviews throughout the visit with local tourism operators and personalities. Large crowd urged to send in objections over gold prospecting plans

first_imgA crowd of more than 200 people last night attended a meeting to hear concerns over plans to prospect for gold and silver in the Glenfin area.The meeting, held at Coimin National School, was called over fears of the lack of consultation with locals over the plans.The Government is considering granting four such licences for various parts of Donegal to an English company. Lunar Upsets Challenge Paradigms

first_imgForty years after the last moonwalkers came home, new discoveries about the moon are calling into question what scientists know about our celestial partner.  But is it legitimate for scientists to invoke mystery forces when a favored theory faces falsifying evidence?Shocking physics:  Looking into the crystal balls Apollo astronauts brought back from the moon, namely zircon minerals, geologists at Curtin University decided their data “challenges” the “current paradigm” known as the Late Heavy Bombardment (see 1/09/2012).  PhysOrg reported about “impact-related shock features in lunar zircon, giving scientists a new conceptual framework to explain the history and timing of meteorite impact events in our solar system.”  When a “new conceptual framework” challenges a “current paradigm,” the ripple effects can undermine textbooks and other related theories.  Since theories about the “timing of meteorite impact events” are built on lunar data, this puts theories of the entire history of the solar system at risk.Alternative energy source:  The moon had a long-lasting dynamo.  That statement should floor you if you are a typical planetary scientist.  To see why, read on Space.com why physicists are scrambling to find alternative power, like homeowners frantically searching for a backup generator when the lights just went out.  The data come from crystals in basalt sample #10020 from the moon that, according to the evolutionary view of radiometric dating, is 3.7 billion years old – yet has remnant magnetism.  In their dating scheme, that’s almost a billion years after the formation of the moon.  Any primeval dynamo that could have magnetized the rock should have been long gone by then.  PhysOrg put the surprise in the first sentence: “The moon has this protracted history that’s surprising.  This provides evidence of a fundamentally new way of making a magnetic field in a planet a new power source [sic].”That quote was from Benjamin Weiss, an associate professor of planetary science at MIT, one of the authors of a paper in Science (27 January 2012: Vol. 335 no. 6067 pp. 453-456, doi: 10.1126/science.1215359).  “Such a long-lived lunar dynamo probably required a power source other than thermochemical convection from secular cooling of the lunar interior,” they wrote, referring to the consensus dynamo theory.  “The inferred strong intensity of the lunar paleofield presents a challenge to current dynamo theory.”  What powered it?  “an alternative energy source,” they suggested.  Have they found one?  No.  They tossed out a couple of possibilities at the end of the paper: maybe stirring from precession did it.  Maybe a big meteor walloped the interior into a temporary molten stir.  It hardly seems they considered those options seriously when they ended, “the late, intense paleomagnetic record from 10020 presents a challenge to current dynamo theory.”Ray tracing algorithm:  This story’s not from our moon, but from the asteroid Vesta, where the DAWN spacecraft is undertaking an orbital reconnaissance.  A new photograph displayed on PhysOrg shows a crater with both dark and light rays.  “There is dark and bright material located across Vesta,” the article said, “but it is unusual to have a crater with both bright and dark ejecta rays.”  Although the press release didn’t say so, the darkness of crater rays is usually taken as an indicator of age.  Looking at our moon, planetary scientists assume that crater rays begin bright and darken over time due to “space weathering,” the effect of solar wind particles on lunar dust.  (See, for instance, in the “Geology of the Moon” article on Ask.com, which states: “The impact process excavates high albedo materials that initially gives the crater, ejecta, and ray system a bright appearance. The process of space weathering gradually decreases the albedo of this material such that the rays fade with time.”)  The new Vesta combo crater shows that dark and light rays can originate from the same impact, potentially undermining the ray-dating algorithm.Which moon?  We may not be able to talk about “the moon” in our nighttime sky.  New Scientist just announced that “Hundreds of tiny moons may be orbiting Earth.”  The idea is that wandering asteroids may get captured in Earth orbit from time to time.  The Earth sits in a gravity well, after all, so it’s not surprising that it would pull objects into its tractor beam.  “They orbit at distances between five and 10 times as far from Earth as the moon,” the article said.  “Most stay in orbit less than a year, although some stay much longer. One object in the team’s simulations stayed in orbit for almost 900 years.”  This could provide some water cooler conversation.  When someone talks about “the moon,” you might respond, “To which moon are you referring?”  They’ll think you are Looney Tunes till you explain.  You can even quote Shakespeare; “There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.”Blue marble:  We end with a breathtaking finale.  The historic Apollo 8 mission in 1968 provided the first human-photographed image of the Earth from a distance.  Subsequent spacecraft have improved on “Earth from space” views over the years.  Now, an Earth-observing spacecraft launched in October, dubbed Suomi NPP, has just released a stunner – a realistic photograph of our “Blue Marble” from 512 miles that is so clear, so beautiful, it deserves to be set to music.  At Space.com you can download it for a screen save in several sizes.  At the Suomi NPP website, you can download the complete highest-resolution image (16.4 mb, 8000 x 8000 pixels) and soar over North and Central America with incredible detail (for starters, check out Lake Mead, Grand Canyon and Lake Powell).  Because the spacecraft flies in a sun-synchronous orbit (see Suomi NPP feature), we can expect more fully-lit images of other faces of our planet as Earth rotates underneath.Look at the Blue Marble photograph and ponder it awhile.  Think about the proud little creatures running around down there who pretend they can understand the cosmos.(Visited 28 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0last_img read more

Miracles in Solar System Origin Theories

first_imgSkipping over a difficulty because it can’t be solved scientifically: that’s one giant backward leap for theory kind.Finagle’s Rule #6 for scientists recommends, “Do not believe in miracles. Rely on them.” Secular materialists follow that rule implicitly when trying to account for the origin of the solar system. They know full well that the “building blocks” of small grains, thought to have condensed out of a primordial gas cloud, do not stick together. They bounce off each other or, worse, erode each other into smaller grains. Only when an accreting ball of grains grows to about a kilometer in diameter will the so-called “planetesimal” begin to accrete more material through gravity. That’s the problem; you have to start with small planets to get planets. But materialists need a theory from the bottom up: from molecules to planets. How can they deal with this giant hurdle? Two ways: (1) invoke miracles, and (2) use the Big Lie tactic while doing it to make it sound convincing. Need proof? Look right here.In Science Magazine, Francesco DeMeo introduces a family reunion of sorts: “Meet the primordial asteroid family.” Drum roll. Here comes the miracle and the big lie.One of the major goals of planetary science is to understand the formation of all the bodies within our solar system, including the nearly one million known asteroids. There are two main competing theories (see the figure). The first and classical theory suggests that these bodies formed incrementally, starting as dust grains and accumulating bit by bit until they reached their final size. The second and more recent theory suggests that these bodies formed almost instantly through the gravitational collapse of clusters of pebble-sized material in the protoplanetary disk into single bodies hundreds or thousands of kilometers in diameter [the miracle]. This method skips the meter-to-kilometer intermediate size range that has been problematic to quantify with the classical method. On page 1026 of this issue, Delbo et al. find compelling observational evidence that when the asteroids formed, they were initially of large size, thus favoring the second model [the big lie].Notice first that the evolutionists exclude creation as a model from the outset. That leaves secular materialists with only two models: gradualism and secular miracles. Instant planets thousands of kilometers in diameter? How can they propose that? If you thought punctuated equilibria was a miraculous theory in biology, look at the miracle here. What physical force could possibly bring this about?The paper by Delbo et al. actually infers the secular miracle in a roundabout way. They never test if grains can actually condense into planetesimals with any experiments in a lab. All they do is count and measure asteroids. They find some orphan asteroids that they claim are 4 billion years old (Darwin Years, that is). Through their convoluted thinking, this can only mean one thing:We discovered a 4-billion-year-old asteroid family extending across the entire inner part of the main belt whose members include most of the dark asteroids previously unlinked to families. This allows us to identify some original planetesimals, which are all larger than 35 kilometers, supporting the view of asteroids being born big.“Born big”? That is worse than claiming that humans exit the birth canal as adults. Here’s how they present the miracle of instant planetesimals: they only refer to previous papers, particularly one in 2008 (see arXiv) that only proposed a “scenario” because of “the poorly understood sticking of mineral particle aggregates and the apparent difficulty of growing beyond meter size due to rapid inward migration and collisional disruption.” Now, nine years since that proposal, Delbo et al. know that the problem remains unsolved:Understanding the formation of the planetesimals, the building blocks of planets, is a crucial problem in planetary science. Traditionally, a coagulation process is invoked, in which accreting collisions create bodies of all sizes up to several hundreds of kilometers. However, new models propose that planetesimals can form preferentially as 102 to 104 km in size directly from the clumping of dust particles in the protoplanetary disk, essentially skipping the formation of kilometer-sized and smaller bodies (1–4).The authors speak of “objects that were lost because of the collisional and dynamical evolution.” That makes sense; we know from experience that collisions break things down. Dynamical evolution can fling objects out of the solar system. But can chance instabilities organize planets instantly? Alan Boss felt like a heretic when he embraced the theory of disk instabilities forming instant gas giant planets (3/21/06, 8/15/15), but he thought core accretion would work for inner planets. This paper shows it does not. It appears that heresy is becoming orthodoxy.Everybody believes in miracles. Some believe in guided miracles by an all-wise, omniscient Creator. Some believe in miracles of chance. Everyone believes in the supernatural. Some refer to it as God’s realm. Others restrict it to science, which is supernatural, because it is not composed of matter in motion.So don’t be fooled into falling for the faith vs science dichotomy. The choice is not between supernatural and natural, but which supernatural worldview logically coheres with the evidence. Stats SA to widen scope of data

first_img19 June 2009Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) is to broaden the scope of data and information it collects in order to respond to the planning needs of the new government, says Statistician-General Pali Lehohla.Reporting to Parliament in Cape Town this week, Lehohla said: “We need to dispassionately look at what is produced by Stats SA and how it relates to the new mandate and trajectory of the country.”Input and planningHe said this meant going beyond statistics that respond to business cycles and economic structure, monitoring and evaluation to a statistical system that also looks at input and planning.“The organisation has to be introspective when considering the nature of its relationship with what the state needs to deliver and how it is going to organise itself in the immediate to medium-term future,” he said.The production of statistics for informing planning, decision-making as well as monitoring and assessing policies was an integral part of the legislative mandate of Stats SA, he added.Improved PPILehohla said the Producer Price Index (PPI), which measures prices at factory gates and tracks movement in prices of producers for a part of the economy, was also to be improved so as to overcome existing methodological limitations.An up-to-date database of all dwellings as well as other structures in the country also is expected to be completed.Census readiness testStats SA is also to conduct a pilot census in 489 enumerator areas to test its readiness for census 2011.Parliament was also informed that international statistical specialists will come to South Africa in August for the International Statistical Institute’s first bi-annual conference on sub-Saharan African soil.Source: BuaNewslast_img read more

Right now, most AR experiences are on cell phones or desktop computers, but fans of augmented reality expect to see some Head Mounted Displays (HMDs) or new transparent LCD screens in the near future.The potential for augmented reality has been flying under the radar for years, and only in recent days have improvements in technology allowed for it to begin to flourish. By clicking on the new Featured Groups tab, users will be able to create and join in the conversations about various television shows, bands, and music events. The new feature is launching with five brands on board, including Oxygen’s Bad Girls Club, MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew, Bon Jovi, and the Bonnaroo and Coachella music festivals. Once users join these groups, they’ll be open to messages from these brands – news, marketing information, exclusive content, contests, and reminders that the show is on.GroupMe says that it was already seeing these sorts of interactions in the app, with people organizing to discuss brands and shows in this way. And the new feature follows a successful SXSW, where those who created groups got access to special information about events in Austin.That makes sense, particularly for events – media and music ones – as people are likely already creating groups to discuss these things, and GroupMe’s new feature could mean better information and better deals. This trick, of course, will be that these branded groups not inundate users with unwanted messages. The new Featured Groups do suggest that GroupMe might have found a business model. Where Do Your Deals Come From?

first_imgHere is what I want you to do today. I want you to log into your CRM and pull your total pipeline. Once you have the complete list of every opportunity you are currently working, I want you to note the method of prospecting that created that opportunity.There isn’t much disagreement around the idea that a warm referral is the very best way to acquire a new client. Count all of the opportunities you are working on now that were referred to you by an existing client. This may, in fact, be the warmest lead ever, but my guess is that you don’t have any in your pipeline right now.Count all the opportunities that came to you from the client researching your company and reaching out to ask for your help.  It is unlikely you’ll have any. This will be true despite the consistent reminder that your clients are allegedly searching the internet and already through their buying process when they reach out to you, a fact that, if true, would be producing more opportunities.Bundle together the opportunities that came from networking events, trade shows, and conferences. In some industries, this list will look pretty good. For most, however, it won’t amount to anything at all.Next look to see how many of the opportunities in your existing pipeline came from an inbound lead. For many—if not most of you—that number will be small, and many of them will have small dollars attached to them. This is the nature or of lead generation now that quantity is valued more than quality, a downloaded white paper making one a qualified lead.Now, count all the opportunities that you created through your own effort, splitting them into two categories. In the first category, count the opportunities that were created by you calling the client to ask them for a meeting. In the second category count the meetings you generated using LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, SnapChat, or YouTube.How many of your opportunities came to you without you having to make much of an effort? How many of them did you have to work to create and what work did you have to do to create those opportunities? I suspect you will find that most of your opportunities required you to do some form of outbound prospecting and that it took effort on your part—particularly for the larger, more valuable opportunities.All of these methods of creating opportunities are good and valid, even if some industries do better in some categories than others. It is important to know where your opportunities come from and put your effort where it generates the most return.
