Vithyatharan, the editor of Sudar Oli, a Colombo-based Tamil daily that is part of the Uthayan press group. He was forcibly arrested while attending the funeral in Colombo of a relative of the group’s chairman. The media minister told the organisation that he was being “treated well” by the police.“Carried out without a warrant, this arrest was a violation of the rule of law,” Reporters Without Borders said. “The police must release Vithyatharan without delay. What is this respected Tamil editor accused of? Outspoken coverage of the situation in Sri Lanka, including the fate of its Tamil population.”Three uniformed police officers and three men in plain clothes arrested Vithyatharan at the funeral of a relative of Uthayan press group chairman M. Saravanapavan. The police hit people who tried to intervene to prevent the arrest.“Until we have seen Vithyatharan safe and sound, we will continue to regard this as an abduction,” Saravanapavan told Reporters Without Borders. Media minister Laxman Yapa told Reporters Without Borders by telephone that Vithyatharan was being held by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) for the purposes of questioning. “He is currently being interrogated and his relatives will be able to see him this evening,” Yapa said. “I can assure you that he is all right. And the press will be informed tomorrow.” Reporters Without Borders asked the minister to guarantee Vithyatharan’s safety. The CCD is conducting an investigation under the emergency regulations into two reports published in Sudar Oli on 6 and 11 February. Vithyatharan was already summoned for questioning by CCD police officer Aura Senanayake on 13 February.Senior members of the Uthayan press group have meanwhile received phone calls threatening them with the same fate if they do not leave the country.Uthayan and Sudar Oli have repeatedly been the targets of violence. Six of the group’s employees have been killed since 2005 and its offices in both Jaffna and Colombo have been attacked several times. Required fields are marked * CITY NEWS SERVICE/STAFF REPORT Pasadena Will Allow Vaccinated People to Go Without Masks in Most Settings Starting on Tuesday As part of the consent calendar, the Pasadena City Council on Monday established new classifications for some employees and updated salaries for some employee classifications.“My philosophy is we need to recognize our employees for the work they are doing and compensate them with a rate that is consistent with the marketplace,” said City Manager Steve Mermell. As part of a recent review, Human Resources recommended establishing two new classifications to meet the changing operational needs of the Fleet Maintenance Division in the Public Works Department and the Planning and Community Development Department, as well as updating existing salaries for two employees in the City Manager’s office and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services. The sweep motion established a $139,940 annual salary control rate for the Public Information Officer position. Monday’s sweep motion does not guarantee a raise for the current PIO.According to a compensation survey, the city is currently paying below the market average compared to similar positions with the same scope of authority and responsibility.“Increasing the control rate provides market-based compensation and improved retention for this critical role,” according to the staff report. The annual salary for a Parks, Recreation and Community Services Administrator was set at $151,690.Increasing the salary of this position, according to the report, creates internal alignment with the Parks Administrator, a position that has a similar scope of responsibility, supervision and required qualifications. This classification is part of the Pasadena Management Association (PMA).Two new employee classifications were also created, one of them calling for a senior equipment mechanic, (SEM), responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and testing of a variety of specialized light, medium and heavy-duty fire and emergency medical services vehicles, as well as other equipment in the city fleet. The position includes an $84,500 annual salary.“None of the current mechanic classifications in the city require experience and expertise related to fire apparatus. As a result, it has been difficult to recruit and retain qualified technicians to maintain the city’s emergency vehicle fleet,” according to a staff report contained in Monday’s City Council agenda.Maintenance and repair of the city’s fire vehicles are currently outsourced to vendors under contract lengthening the time it takes to complete repairs and return vehicles to service. The council also created a new classification for a Neighborhood and Business Services Administrator. The position carries an annual $170,000 salary and reports directly to the director of planning and community development, David Reyes. The administrator would manage the customer-facing functions of code compliance and permitting in the newly established Neighborhood and Business Services Division.“This position will oversee approximately 23 employees,” the report reads. “This senior-level manager will be responsible for managing the city’s built environment through the administration of a variety of federal, state and local neighborhood preservation and improvement programs, vacant lot and property abatement, housing and zoning code enforcement, and property-based complaint tracking and resolution.Other items on Monday’s consent calendar included a review of the city’s annual financial report and its quarterly investment report.center_img STAFF REPORT Pasadena’s ‘626 Day’ Aims to Celebrate City, Boost Local Economy Herbeauty9 Of The Best Family Friendly Dog BreedsHerbeautyHerbeautyHerbeautyYou Can’t Go Past Our Healthy Quick RecipesHerbeautyHerbeautyHerbeautyWant To Seriously Cut On Sugar? FIFA rejects 45-minute games amid five substitutions plan – report

first_img From the Zurich headquarters of the sport’s governing body, there has been confirmation made to MARCA that teams will be able to make up to five substitutions per match once football returns.Advertisement Read Also: La Liga club admits fear to play during COVID-19 pandemic The English Football Association requested this change and it has been well received by FIFA in an attempt to lower the risk of injury to players, who will be playing a large number of matches in a very short time frame. Another suggestion made to FIFA was matches being shortened to just 45 minutes, however FIFA consider this to be totally unacceptable as it would distort the game too much, as well as the spirit of competition. FacebookTwitterWhatsAppEmail分享 The forthcoming changes to football have been well discussed, from the transfer market right through to changes in the structure of training sessions, yet even more differences to the game are coming, with FIFA set to agree to a move which will permit five substitutions per match. However, to avoid constant periods of changes like what we see in international friendly matches, these substitutions will only be allowed to be carried out at three specific points in a match. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed football, perhaps forever, and the measures taken to ensure the health of every professional and staff member involved in the return to action will be stringent. FIFA are currently preparing a document with medical recommendations that will be made official in the coming days, although it won’t be seen as protocol, rather a list of advisory measures.
