There were a number of sign-posting calls, people looking to know about other services and information and these are extremely important also.”Regarding the volunteer piece, she said: “Through the GAA, FAI and Munster Rugby and local rugby clubs, we have well over 300 volunteers already signed up. But then we have had hundreds of more calls on top of that from volunteers.“These include from businesses who are offering their services for free and we are so grateful to these. Some of the offers are specific to what the businesses do themselves but others are just offering their time and their vehicles.“This is all so encouraging. Limerick people collectively have put their hands up and said they want to help. It says a lot about them. People from all areas of the city and county, from all backgrounds, male and female.“We really couldn’t be happier and we are ready now for any spike in activity over the coming weeks and months. SeaIntel: Impact of Cyber Attack on APM Terminals Quite Muted

first_imgThe recent cyber-security breach at Maersk group’s APM Terminals had a clear impact on the vessel handing operations in the immediate short-term, but it was not far outside the normal operational fluctuations, SeaIntel’s analysis shows.For the most part, APM Terminals continued vessel handling operations as normal, albeit at a slower pace for a short number of days.Some individual terminals were severely impacted, not least the fully automated Maasvlakte II terminal in Rotterdam, where vessel operations stopped completely for a full week, but even in the worst cases, vessels were routed to other terminal facilities, as was the case in Rotterdam, where the APMT Rotterdam terminal saw average berth stays more than double for three days.Despite the heavy impact on specific, individual terminals, “the impact is quite muted when looked across all 68 APM Terminals facilities,” Alan Murphy, CEO of SeaIntel, said.“We see vessels arriving late and spending longer time at berth for a few days, but overall, the impact is not outside what we see through normal operational fluctuations,” Murphy explained.Although the number of vessels that called APMT facilities decreased slightly following the incident, the schedule reliability of the vessels that called an APMT berth plunged from an average of 74% to around 55% in the days after the incident, but was back to normal levels again after three days.The analysis focused only on vessel handling operations, and did not consider any landside terminal operations, such as handling of containers once they are offloaded and stacked, gate procedures, intermodal operations, truck turn times, landside congestion, SeaIntel said, adding that “this is likely where APMT and their customers may have felt the brunt of the impact of this cyber-security breach.”last_img read more

PIL Bolsters Fleet with Two 11,800 TEU Newbuilds

first_imgSingapore’s containership operator Pacific International Lines (PIL) Group has taken delivery of two new 11,800 TEU containerships.The two vessels form part of a batch comprising twelve 11,8000 TEU boxships ordered by PIL from Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (Holdings) Ltd. The newbuilding duo has been built at the group’s Suzhou shipyard.The two ships have been christened Kota Pahlawan and Kota Panjang at a naming ceremony held in China.Both have successfully completed their sea trials and set off for Singapore on October 30 and November 1 respectively. The two vessels will be deployed on the Far East – US AC5 service from the beginning of November 2017.Port rotation: Xiamen – Nansha – Hong Kong – Yantian – Long Beach – XiamenAccording to PIL, the new ships are each fitted with 1,400 reefer plugs that can accommodate up to a maximum of 2,800 TEU of refrigerated containers onboard. They also feature an energy efficient design with an Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI). “PIL looks forward to taking delivery of its other vessels and is confident that the high-quality standards set by these two vessels will continue to be upheld,” the company said.PIL has 118 live vessels in its fleet, one bulker of 56,700 dwt and 12 small dry ships with a total carrying capacity of 269,400 dwt. The fleet also includes 105 containerships.Based on the data provided by VesselsValue, two ships have been earmarked for scrapping, a handy container of 1,180 TEU name Kota Wangsa and a singledecker, Selatan Datang, of 4,000 dwt. Both vessels are to be scrapped in  Bangladesh.last_img read more
